The Department of Chemistry is committed to supporting doctoral students who participate in activities that complement, extend, and enrich their academic experience at West Virginia University. To request funding for these activities, please review the guidelines below:
Funding Overview
- Eligible students may receive up to $500 per academic year (through May 30) for qualifying activities.
- Funding decisions are made at the discretion of the Graduate Committee and the Associate Chair for Graduate Studies, and are subject to fund availability.
Application Guidelines
- Only individual applications will be considered; group submissions are not accepted.
- Applications may be submitted as soon as the activity is planned, but no later than 14 days after the activity concludes.
- Applications are reviewed on the first Friday of each month during the fall and spring semesters.
- Once approved, funds may take up to four weeks to be credited to the student’s WVU account. Funds cannot be disbursed directly to students or via a state PCard.
Meal & Expense Guidelines
- Per diem rates do not apply.
- Meals may be included in the activity budget, but reimbursement is based on itemized receipts and capped at $50 per day.
- Students must retain all receipts related to the funded activity.
Documenting Expenses
- Expenses without proper documentation will not be reimbursed.
- Receipts must be submitted via the Qualtrics form in a single PDF within 14 days of the activity’s conclusion.
- Unverified expenses or any excess disbursement beyond verified expenses will be reversed. When funds are reversed, a debit (charge) will be applied to the student’s account.
