Matt received his BS in Chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh. He received his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison under the direction of Prof. Lloyd M. Smith and continued training as a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Prof. George M. Whitesides at Harvard University. Matt started his career as an Assistant Professor at the University of Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2013, was promoted to associate professor in 2020, and then to full professor in 2026. Starting in August of 2026, Matt will join the Chemistry Department at WVU as a full professor. 

Research Interests: Bioanalysis; 3D cell culture systems; microfabricated devices; hormone-sensitive cancer models; liver-on-chip devices; environmental toxicology; PFAS effects on human health; optical and electrochemical sensors; surface chemistry; chemically modified electrodes; hybrid photoelectrodes; solar fuel generation
