Fundamental advancements in the field of organometallic chemistry have enabled
advances in new catalytic processes that are of significant benefit to society.
As an undergraduate chemistry major at West Virginia University, I was provided
an opportunity to engage in undergraduate research focused on the synthesis of
early transition metal organometallic complexes. This experience diverted my trajectory
toward an academic career dedicated to research focused on understanding of organometallic
reactivity applied to the development of new strategies for catalytic conversions
of small molecules. The presentation will detail some experiences from my time
as an undergraduate student through my tenure as a graduate student, postdoctoral
researcher, faculty member and my current role as Associate Dean for Graduate Education
with a few highlights of new organometallic chemistry and catalytic processes.
